Winner of the SoGlos Family Business Award 2023
Recently the Gloucestershire business community celebrated an exceptional home-grown success story when G. R. Lane Health Products was named the Family Business of the Year in the SoGlos Gloucestershire Business Awards 2023.
As sponsor of the Family Business of the Year category, QuoLux™ director, Jo Draper, had the privilege of sitting on the judging panel alongside more than 20 other independent judges, and there is much about the fourth-generation family business that makes it a worthy winner of this accolade.
The business was founded over nine decades ago in 1930 by Gilbert Lane and his wife Grace. Gilbert was passionate about natural health and wellbeing and he started to write and sell books on diet and health as well as making several natural remedies.
Today Lanes Health employ over 250 people and their products can be found in medicine cabinets across the country and beyond including household names such as Olbas Oil, Kalms and Jakemans cough sweets.

When they say they are a family business, they truly mean it with the Lane family continuing to play a vital role in the organisation. They recognise that for a family company to continue down the generations, it is important that each generation shares the same vision, and as Jon Groves, Gilbert’s great-grandson, took over the role of Executive Chairman from his mother, Janet Groves, earlier this year, he proudly ensures that the purpose, vision and values remain at the heart of the business. As well as Jon and Janet, Jon’s sister and three cousins are all involved in the business and attend shareholders meetings.
To celebrate their 90th birthday, Janet together with the help of other family members compiled a book entitled ‘The Lanes Way’ which documents the family history and ensures that the rich heritage of Lanes Health is captured for generations to come.
Watching Jon and his colleagues celebrating their highly deserved award as they took to the stage, it’s clear that winning together means so much to all of them. Jon shared:
"We are absolutely thrilled to receive this Award, which recognizes the commitment everyone at Lanes has for living the family values every day.”
